DO GOOGLE REVIEWS MATTER?

Over the year’s, we’ve worked with many clients who have a deep, burning desire to see their business holding down the number one spot on search engines (and Google in particular). And while it’s possible, it doesn’t happen without intentionality and knowledge. There’s no magic wand you can just wave in front of your website. There are no words you can yell at Siri that will do the trick. And unless you are paying for AdWords, it’s not an overnight fix. It’s just not that simple.

So how does it work?

Well, that’s a loaded question. Algorithm’s are ever changing and it takes folks with a learners posture to stay in the know. But there are a few basic things you can do to help your business’ organic position.

  • Content, Content, Content

    • Adding relevant and optimized content to your website is a free way to increase your search rankings. As you gain more klout with your audience, you may become a “go to” source for information. More site traffic equals better rankings. So whether it’s a blog, photos, or targeted campaign pages — new content helps! And here’s a token of bonus content, don’t forget to optimize your images (ie. file names, etc.).

  • Ask For Reviews

    • While reviews alone will not hijack the algorithms to get you that number one spot, it is one of the outliers that Google considers when determining rank. The more reviews you have, the better. Also, reviews build an immense amount of trust with your audience. Think about it, how many times have you selected a restaurant based on Google’s star ratings?

  • Backlinking

    • To help add integrity to your website, try backlinking content from other credible sources. What are backlinks? Think of them more like citations back when you were writing essays for school.

While these are just a few improvements that you can make, they will go a long way in improving your search ranking. You can also focus on improving your website speed by avoiding the use of large image/video files, etc. Also, take a few moments to inspect your site monthly for broken links. Nobody likes an error message and search engines don’t either.
